The View From McGee Street

by Susan Righter in My Artistic Journey

Let me start by saying that having my drawing of Audrey Hepburn chosen for a group exhibit at the Hilliard Gallery for March has truly been a “pinch me” experience thus far!  As an “emerging” artist, it can be overwhelming at times to see how much great art and how many great artists there are out there!  It’s inspiring, too, to know that Kansas City is a thriving art scene.

As we pulled up to the gallery last night for first Friday in Kansas City, MO, I was so amazed to see my own work visible from the outside of the gallery on McGee Street.  Wow–it was so cool!  Even then, I was thinking, really?!  It was one of those surreal moments when your mind hasn’t quite caught up to reality.  I know you’re probably thinking, what’s the big deal?  But for me, this was truly a milestone to have a piece selected for a gallery show.  Up to this point, I have done a little of this and a little of that as I try to figure out where I want to go with my art.  I’m so grateful to the people who are willing to take a chance on me and my art as I learn the ropes of the art world.  The exhibit featuring my drawing will run through March 24.

My show at Darling Yoga has ended (thanks again to them for the opportunity) and I have moved some of my work to Whole Foods on 119th and Metcalf in Overland Park.  It will be there until March 31 and 25% of any proceeds will go the the Whole Planet Foundation.

I’m motivated, inspired and grateful.  Now, time to be creative!
